Letgoletgod.org volunteers aren’t in the “business” of soliciting our time as paid professional counselors. We’re not trained, certified, or any of that. We’re volunteers who, by circumstances have the urge to share biblical truth as we have come to understand it.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15
Some thoughts:
We have some reservations about the Psychiatry / Psychology profession. In particular we encourage people to abstain from medications when possible.
“Our word of caution concerns the dichotomy of mixing Psychology and Christianity. … self-oriented mental health and self-actualized success are naturally in conflict with the selflessness we find in the example and teaching of Jesus.”
And if you are among those who have found themselves on medication that “affects us from the neck up?” We suggest detoxing from these as well … if possible. Never, meaning don’t even think about beginning anti-depressant detox absent your physician’s consent, advice and supervision.
On the other hand, we agree in principal that people in need, who are seeking help – should find it! Medication is often valuable as a bridge to genuine sobriety. Pharmaceutical use should be temporary whenever possible.
If you are seeking professional help for yourself or someone else? We suggest that you begin with “Christian” or “Faith Based” Counseling services. Listed below are ones we’re aware of on the US West Coast.
If you have suggestions on other practices that should be on this list (or taken off!) we covet your feedback.
