Meditations on Social Murder
Killing-off people in our minds? Tantamount to murder according to Jesus.
Notions relating to the dissolution of relationships in the context of an election that is a referendum on biblical morality and social justice.
Pictures from 2000 years ago help us settle our emotions and orient our spirits. A compilation of ideas.
Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.Mark 4:18-19
You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. And you will be hated for my name’s sake.Luke 21:16-17
What’s meant by the death of a relationship? Assuming I’m a genuine believer when friends become enemies, I still love them. It’s painful; grieving as we are killed off in the hearts of brothers and sisters. This vicissitude lacks christian reciprocity. Pharisees are booting people (overtly as well as figuratively) over political correctness and false doctrine.
It’s a powerful temptation to respond to our estrangement with bitterness, anger and resentment. The enemy wins if we slip thus. We must love enemies and this gets easier when we realize our own mortality. Truly that we are spiritually dead now, but alive in Christ. The angst exists in our old man.
Jesus says “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” But we must be careful about what we mourn, if we hope for the blessing of comfort. The Lord himself sees his sheep engaged in a mortal, moral conflict, just like when he was on earth. This has always broken his heart.
What do you mean by crushing My people And grinding the faces of the poor?Isaiah 3:15
What a blessing it is, and how uplifting it has been to find others – estranged also, orphaned of the Church – comprehending the Word of God for what it says and being willing to make the sacrifices required to walk the Narrow Way.
some sacrifices involve permitting the death of toxic relationships.
Christendom is once again balancing on the razors edge of a sword – the Word of God.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.Hebrews 4:12
In one camp, self-dealing Religious elites, fostering cliquishness, and a cult of personality /come political messiah – all founded upon false interpretation and self-service – has seized on the role moral enforcer and a method of divide and conquer. No matter the issue or situation, false wisdom drives a temporal strong-arm inflaming the outrage and unrest of outcasts, orphans and the oppressed.
The politics of persecution has washed over what remains of Evangelical faith, where adherents perceive only wrongs done upon their freedom, privilege, power, prosperity and position. A prostitute moral authority anchors thinking, nothing can get through otherwise.
In the other camp, a loose affiliation of Church Orphans – the vast majority of whom simply can’t figure out what happened. They know they can’t attend church with people who abide hate, and yet the compulsion to gather and seek God remains.
Politically, resistance may gain strength in numbers. We’ll see.
Spiritually, however, there is little to no resistance or debate possible because impenetrable doctrinal foundations, albeit erroneous ones, divide “believers” leaving nothing but a barren no-mans land between.
The notion is that we and our heart-felt understanding of Christ are not seeking confrontation or conflict. We don’t want to cause others to vent the bile they have been learning in their circle, we don’t want them to indulge the anger and hate being taught in the clique.
And what’s left is the emptiness – people who have killed us off in their hearts and minds and continue unabated on the warpath of Social Injustice.
And so we should experience grief over what God intended to be beautiful. That his ‘Church’ would be bursting with loving relationships between believers sharing one God, one Faith and a collective mission to follow Christ. This is a tremendous loss and we should weep over it’s passing.
But, this was not meant to last. God tells us that it will crumble. That the institutions of man will fail. The political ones and the religious ones.
For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.Luke 21:22
Finally, in backing quietly out of relationships it is perhaps worth noting that while fingers inside the clique may point in our direction … the inversion of truth is a signature of falsehood.
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.1 John 2:18-18
Making the assertion that it was the organized church that left us, simple believers to pursue ungodly doctrine.
The point is mainly that “These things must come to pass …” (Luke 21:9) Jesus is commenting on the destruction of the Temple in his time, but the parallel fulfillment of the metaphor in our time is certainly something we should expect.
Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock. The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them.Ezekiel 34:2-4
We are a privileged generation – watching from the ramparts. Be blessed friends, this too shall pass.
An important thing to know is that the Word of God cuts at our flesh if we point the meaning of scripture toward ourselves.
If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul…Isaiah 58:9-10
Let’s be found watching and waiting and prayerfully lifting wayward believers before the Lord in prayer. Who knows? One day they may come to understand the humility and meekness of Christ and fall irrevocably in love with him, instead of themselves. There is nothing better than having a lost sheep restored to the flock. But only Jesus can do that.
If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.Mt 18:12-14
