Intellectual Sloth

Thoughtful denial? Intellectual Sloth.

Thoughts on the emerging age of Science Denial, Fake Postulation and the link between such lies to the money and power behind them.

Who are we listening to? Are they creating false arguments in support of falsehoods? It would be a benign thing if folks were just intellectually lazy. But deliberate fabrication in the face of truth is sin. Slothful thinking – for instance using biblical allegory as a basis for thinly veiled “scientific proofs” and the deliberate, incorrect interpretation of observable fact – is simply lying.

Premise: “The Word of God cannot be in conflict with the Creation of God.”

Science research often goes in directions that theoreticians prefer to avoid. Facing rigorous mathematical derivations and Edwin Hubble’s results, Einstein called his notion of the Cosmological Constant “The biggest blunder of my life.” Smart people are not immune to making the mistake of wanting the universe to confirm personal beliefs.

For real thinkers a change of mind is always possible, this is intellectual honesty. So in the face of facts, doubts are suspended and understanding bends itself toward the truth. Einstein conceded his understanding of Cosmology to the mathematical proofs and facts of observation.

When scripture says the universe was made in six days, we can accept it – knowing that time, as perceived by God – is unlikely time as we perceive it. In truth, scripture directly indicates this notion.

“For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night.”

Psalm 90:4

Science versus Deniers covers: Climate Change, Flat Earth fanaticism, Evolution. Any of a number of patently incorrect points of view that have been designed, defended, supported and expanded by the “latter day” church – are in conflict with observable truth. In conflict simply because people – rigid in their thinking – will not accept the facts that creation is speaking to them.

Unfortunately, this is big business – Christian radio is full of advertisements selling books and DVD’s that advance the lies of the authors. People in church that attempt to point out thinking errors are evicted from their seats, case out or marginalized and mocked. If you don’t toe the Evangelical link on Creation, you are counted among “Scoffers.” You are labeled an apostate.

But it is the actual reverse that is true. Lying about Creation from the pulpit will be cast down. That is: Some day God will show the truth for all to admit.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools…”

Romans 1:18-22

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.”

Psalm 1:4

“I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

Luke 19:40

Cosmology. Origins of Life, the Geological record – Fossils. These are not subjects that intellectually rigorous thinkers disbelieve. “The stones cry out.” Rigid religious thinking cannot hear them.

“If you believe that the Universe and everything in it were created in six literal days? You should stop using your mobile phone now, and everything electrical in your life. The Physics that operates these appliances leads inexorably to a notion that what we observe took eons to assemble.”
