Sober Birthday Wishes “God Never Wastes A Hurt”

Happy Sober Birthday, Kent. 35 years is half of a life. Congratulations, brother.

We’d like to share something in celebration with you.

When Samson – a Nazarite – took the shortcut through the vineyard (defiling himself by being in there) he encountered the roaring lion. We know the lion pictures the enemy. Under the power of the Spirit he went about defeating it. Later, he went back and found that in the carcass of the dead thing was honey. He ate some and gave it to his family.

We notice that it took his returning to the vineyard (defilement) and touching a dead thing (again, defilement) to reach the sweetness. Absent these apparent infractions Samson had nothing to share. We find ourselves in apparent defilement, hanging out with people our churches shun. But addicts and alcoholics, our true brothers and sisters – are members our family and we have something to share.

I, like you no doubt, have heard this taught many ways. But it occurs to me that Samson was used of God despite his shortcomings, despite his difilement … and the riddle he posed to the 30 young Philistine princes is really an unacknowledged prophecy.

“Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.” Judges 14:14

Strong compulsions are weapons of the enemy, intended to devour life. Instead, upon conquering them and after some time – something sweet grows. It’s for sharing.

Thank you sir, for all of your service to the weak, wounded and broken. Thank you for answering the call to service.

Proverbs 24:10-12

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.

If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?

Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

Yours is a story worth telling, sort of as Paul Says: “I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses.”

Thank you for contending for the Kingdom of God.

We wish you all the happiness, contentment and peace that flows from heaven.
