RE: An article online today discussing 12-step programs which asks: “Is the concept of a higher power obsolete?”
For starters, my higher power has a name – Jesus. But leaving that aside, there is meat here to digest.
Contemplation: How the enemy uses truthful means in a corrupt manner to dislodge faith. Satan uses doubt as his fulcrum. Ultimately the faithful response, the correct reaction – is prayer. Paul says we’re to be busy in the following way:
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Eph. 6:18
The “flaming arrows of the evil one” — are always aimed where there are gaps in our armor – or to put it another way – where our faith is thinest. The evil one casts aspersions and doubts at us that are intended to stop us in our walk.
James said it this way:
“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” Ja. 1:14:15
Falling back into the arms of a loving God is the only answer.
But what if you don’t have a God?
For starters you can’t have peace with Him. And you can’t be healed by Him. Having viewed the Aeon piece, it’s seems that Science and Medicine advance at the expense of faith. But it only seems this way. Nature is in fact a Testament of God. And however it works is by his design. No surprise the enemy would hop on new understanding and use it to destroy some. It’s a reminder perhaps that the arguments made by secular thinkers and researchers are powerful. Can I absorb them and carry on?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Eph. 6:10-17
In the end, the arrogance of unbelievers never ceases to astonish. If I pray I am commanded also to pray for my “enemies.”
