Elsewhere on the internet there are sites where the “Sinner’s Prayer” and repentance process is much simplified. We feel these to be glib, and encourage you to linger over this decision. Patience is warranted because this is the most important decision one can ever make in this life.
Important decisions are rationally made with much consideration. Authenticity is essential. Emotional aspects will emerge later, as God draws our attention to our short-comings.
God will reason with you, because God is rational. But God is not to be trifled with … we will either be convinced of His ultimate truth or we can willfully — freely — indulge deceitful hearts and turn our backs on Him.
“Come let us reason together…” Is 1:18
God welcomes questions! He will answer every concern. There is only one requirement — that we are completely authentic in our request. He knows when we aren’t. He sees our hearts, and so much more transparently than we do even ourselves!
Many prayers “save me!” are made from foxholes. And God in His grace responds!
But the battle of life rages around us, we feel defeated, hopeless. Essentially, foxholes are “bottoms.” Our powerlessness finally seems real to us. So, the real issue of repentance is becoming fully and permanently convinced of our uselessness. powerlessness and failings — even when we aren’t in a foxhole.
Jesus Christ wants an open and loving relationship with you. He is completely Holy and authentic. The Lord wants to know you personally and privately — for eternity. You are created in His image — a mind, a body and a spirit — with free will. Why free will? Because Love is not possible absent the free will to hate.
It’s an interesting thing: That God created us in His image, giving us free will. A most precious gift, right? And the most important thing being that we come to love him. And so the greatest act of worship we can give (and the only one that has meaning), is to submit our free will to His in our lives. Having done so, His earthy rewards are “Life and life more abundantly.”
There are many unfortunately, that none of this makes sense to. But they are without excuse:
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Ro. 1:18
So, take time; really consider taking this decision and making your confessions before God. The more serious and real your heart, the deeper He can take you.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John. 3:16
